If you are a Byron High School MN graduating senior, congratulations, you did it! You are now ready to take the next step in your life, college! Suppose you are moving into a dorm or an apartment. In that case, you will probably need a list of all college dorm room essentials, from sheets to cleaning supplies to many more things. Check out all the requirements you will need to start your new college journey!
You will want to make sure you have a comfortable bed. Your bed will be where you eat, hang out with friends for movie night, and study for your midterm exams. You will want to ensure that your bed is as comfortable as possible. Another consideration is getting a Twin XL foam or gel mattress topper (most dorm rooms go by this standard bed size, but check with your college).
You will want to stay cool, so you may also consider a cooling topper. You will want it to be extra comfortable, as the mattresses in your dorm don’t always have the best reputation as being comfortable. Ensure you also get several sets of sheets to get in line for the washer and dryer immediately; you will have a backup on deck. Lots of pillows for all occasions, a long body pillow, one of those pillows that are a backrest, and even a pillow laptop desk could help you for all events.
Being students at Byron High School MN, we are not used to sharing a bathroom with people other than our family. As a result, you will want to ensure that you have all the essentials you love the most. One of the best college dorm essentials is a shower caddy, which will keep all your bathroom supplies in one space. Whether you have to walk down the hall or simply don’t want roommates using your stuff, you can keep this caddy and take it to the bathroom. You may also want to consider shower shoes as you share the showers. You should also invest in a comfy robe or wrap so you do not have to walk from the shower to your room in a towel.
When you attended Byron High School MN and lived at home, laundry was easy. Either our parents did it, or we would walk to the laundry room and use it whenever we wanted. At college, you will have to travel a long journey carrying all of your clothes and laundry supplies. Next, you will have to wait in the laundry room, so no one will throw your wet clothes into a basket because they need the washer next. Finally, you will have to pay for each load that you do!
You will want to ensure that you have a laundry basket with wheels, as this will save your back from having to lug it around. You will also enjoy a place in your door room, a hook, or something to dry clothes that you want to avoid putting in the dryer. Make sure to have a laundry caddy with your quarters, laundry soap, and any dryer sheets, wrinkle guard, or lint brushes you may need.
When you went to Byron High School MN and lived in a house, you had plenty of space. However, storage and organization will now be critical, as you are probably moving a lot of stuff into a tiny little room. Under the bed, storage will be your best friend, as some dorms raise the bed into a loft so you can have a lot of space under there. Getting some of those 3-drawer plastic carts with wheels are perfect for storing clothes, snacks, school supplies, or accessories.
Baskets are a great way to organize items on your desk or shelves. Also, hooks and command strips are fantastic because you can hang things on the walls or the back of the doors, and you do not have to drill any holes in the walls. Having a designated space for everything in your dorm room will make life much easier with all the limited space.
School supplies will differ depending on what your course load looks like and what classes you are taking, but you will want to have the essentials. Find a good planner; that way, you will always complete all assignments, due dates, and exams. Also, have enough pens, paper, notebooks, and things like scissors, calculators, and rulers because you never know when you will need them for an assignment. Living on or near campus, you will be walking a lot! A sturdy and supportive backpack or shoulder bag is vital to carrying your computer, books, and supplies everywhere, whether in class, the cafeteria, or studying in the library.
When you were at Byron High School MN, you most likely had a kitchen at home. Some dorms have a kitchen area, but you will often share with other students, and there will be little space, so everything must be compact. Try packing an electric hot water kettle to make everything from tea to ramen noodles. A mini fridge or microwave would be beneficial. However, you should coordinate with your roommates and school to ensure you are allowed to bring these items.
Moving out on your own can seem intimidating and overwhelming. Being a Byron High School MN student one day and then a college student the next is a big deal, so you deserve the best in your new college dorm room. Be sure to check out all the best essentials that will help you be as successful as you can be!
